Iola M Phillips
November 25, 1924 – May 3, 2016
Iola M. Phillips, 91, a Native of Laveen, AZ passed away May 3rd at her residence with her family by her side. Iola was born in 1924 in Laveen, AZ where she resided her entire life. She was united in marriage to Dan J. Phillips on September 11, 1943 in Phoenix, AZ. He preceded her in death November 11, 1998. They were able to spend 55 happy years together. Iola was a home maker but also was a bookkeeper at the produce warehouse she and her husband owned for 40 years. Iola was a small woman but that didn’t stop her from driving 18 wheeler semi-trucks with her husband to various states to deliver produce. She loved to tell stories about her experiences with driving an 18 wheeler. Iola loved to socialize and enjoyed going shopping and out to eat with her closest friend Agnus. After her husband’s passing in 1998, Iola joined her community church, Laveen Baptist Church which she was an active member of for 17 years. She was able to find the peace and strength she need through her involvement in many of the church activities. She enjoyed being a part of Women on a Mission, helping to serve the meals in the church, and most of all singing in the choir. Her other pleasures in life were gardening and raising her chickens, back when she and her husband raised livestock on their farm. She and her husband had a variety of livestock ranging from horses, ponies, donkeys, cows, and chickens. She is survived by her 2 daughters Patricia and Barbara, her 4 grandchildren Willy, Dan, Brian, and Michele, and her 4 great grandchildren.
